After several weeks of planning, Grand Flavours was launched this month!
Grand Flavours has been specially set up for locals and aims to be a 'foodie club', with monthly gourmet gatherings, talks and other events. It costs nothing to join up and benefits include discounts off food and drink at The Grand. Special events will be ticketed but they will be fantastic value and we feel they will become a 'must attend' for members.
The launch party was a big success, with over 150 guests (local business people, Torbay glitterati and some of our regular diners) tucking into the creations whipped up by Richard Hunt, our Executive Chef. With a mobile kitchen installed by Castle Kitchens in the Devonshire Suite - and ably aided by one of his talented brigade, Canon Vaz - Richard chopped, stirred, seared, marinated, drizzled, blended and wowed us all with dishes featuring scallops, salmon and venison. These were followed by a range of mini deserts, including a to-die-for white chocolate cheesecake!
Our Food & Beverage Manager, Tom Vaughan, was on hand with a selection of wines for everyone to taste (thank you Carlsberg for providing these!) and local brewery Hunters dropped off a cask of their new brew "Grand Winter Ale" for party-goers to sample and preview before it goes on sale in our Compass Lounge & Café Bar.
We held a raffle in aid of Children's Hospice South West and party-goers raised a generous £360 for the charity. There were plenty of great prizes, including one where Richard will go round to the lucky winner's house to cook dinner. It isn't hard to imagine that this prize generated a lot of interest!
